I am a second year MBA student. Four of my teammates and I are currently doing a student consultant project for a client who is looking into entering the commissary sector. In addition, we are seeking any opportunity that can help facility administrators to better manage and operate the facilities. At the research stage, we are trying to understand inmate and warden's need and wants to help us better understand the key problem inside the correction facilities. We are very interested in interviewing wardens, correctional facility guards, and administrators. I was wondering if any of you are willing to have a short conversation with us to help us gain more insights and ideas for our project? We are in the Philadelpia area, we can meet in person or phone conference if you are from outside of Philadelphia.

Thank you.

Inmate Manipulation

I'm look for some suggestions on some books that deal with inmate manipulation of staff, particularly Correctional Officers. I viewed a power point from the "shared files" section but was looking for something more substantial. Any online resources would be of great help also.

My pastor has put me in charge of forming our correctional outreach ministry. We are in the infant stages of forming the ministry and I am looking for training material to train our future volunteers on inmate manipulation and similiar topics. I would also like information on employment assistance or other prisoner assistance. Information on a prisoners family and children would be benificial also. I would greatly apreciate if anybody can help me with material, (videos and/or paper). Anything will help right now. You can email me at emmanuelproject@gmail.com or you can mail the material to Ken Varney, The emmanuel Project, PO Box 24, LeRoy, MI 49655. If any one from North West Michigan that is interested you can visit our temporary website at http://www.freewebs.com/the-emmanuel-project. I would apreciate any feedback about experiences they may of had from ministry volunteers/programs they have had at their facility. thanks Ken

He finished early due to good time which is given in NJ. Upon his release PA picks him up via a detainer issued by a CO at a county correctional facility-again, what steps should be taken to help this inmate out? At this point in time, I'd say he's at least eligible for immediate parole and/or an emergent hearing, etc... ?

Grant Sources

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department operates jail facilities located throughout the County of Los Angeles, which encompasses more than 4,000 square miles. Currently, in order to visit an inmate incarcerated in the jail system, family members must transport themselves to the facility where the inmate is located and wait in line for an opportunity to visit, which is not guaranteed in the “first-come-first-served” system. In some cases, families, including young children, must travel nearly 100 miles, arrive very early in the morning and wait in line for hours, never being sure they will even get to visit their loved one. A visit scheduling and reservation system would guarantee their visiting time and eliminate long waits in line. A video visiting system would allow them to visit an inmate located at a remote facility, from a local facility, or even their own home, eliminating long drives. Based on this, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department is exploring the possibility of obtaining grants funding to implement this project. Does anybody know of any grant sources that might fund such a project? Thanks in advance for your assistance.
