Correctional Ministry Outreach

Hello, I am an ex correction officer from Georgia and MIchigan. My pastor has put me in charge of forming our correctional outreach ministry. We are in the infant stages of forming the ministry and I am looking for training material to train our future volunteers on inmate manipulation and similiar topics. I would also like information on employment assistance or other prisoner assistance. Information on a prisoners family and children would be benificial also. I would greatly apreciate if anybody can help me with material, (videos and/or paper). Anything will help right now. New Radio Shows on Faith-Based and Community Programs from the US Department of Labor

Dear Colleagues: There are two new radio programs available from “DC Public Safety” at http://media.csosa.gov.They address the community and faith-based efforts of the US Department of Labor. Documentation for the “Ready for Work” program is available at www.dol.gov/cfbci. See publications.There are now 50 radio programs available for “DC Public Safety.” There will soon be 15 television shows and videos available at the same site.“DC Public Safety” now has 600,000 hits to the site since January of 2007. We are recording 16,000 hits each week. Do You Believe in Faith-Based Prisons?

A new report, Evaluation of Florida's Faith- and Character-Based Institutions, has been published by the Urban Institute. Florida runs two FCBIs - one correctional facility (Lawtey) for male inmates and another institution (Hillsborough) which offers the program for female inmates. According to the abstract of the report, "This research provides the first formal study of Florida’s FCBIs, and is guided by three research questions: (1) What are the FCBI objectives? (2) How are these objectives achieved? and (3) What are the FCBI outcomes?" This research will help you form an opinion on the efficacy of FCBIs.
