International Association of Correctional Training Personnel Annual Conference

It's not too early to begin making plans to attend this year's IACTP Trainers' Conference October 19 through October 22 in Tempe, Arizona. This is your opportunity to attend exceptional workshops, network with your peers, and share your knowledge. IACTP is looking for correctional training practitioners, educators, researchers, and advocates to present workshops at the conference. If you are interested in presenting a workshop, complete the Workshop Proposal On line Form and submit it no later than May 31.

Another important aspect of the conference is the opportunity to recognize those who have excelled in the training arena through the IACTP Awards of Excellence in Correctional Training. Any IACTP member may either apply for an award or nominate another member agency, or private sector company for an award. Not a member? Apply on line here.

Our mission is to foster the development and progress of the art of short-term detentions, improve the levels of training and safety for the detention officer while providing for increased care, custody, and control of the detainee. We strive to promote a spirit of cooperation etween the municipal jails and to enable rapid and accurate exchange of communication between agencies which will also enhance cooperation between agencies. We encourage participation in and the support of the affairs of the Municipal Jail Association of Texas through conferences and meetings to exchange open discussions, training, technology, and ideas. We firmly believe in advancement of the field of short-term municipal detentions through positive actions on the part of its members, and through professionalism, training and education. Indiana Department of Correction - 2008 National Mental Health Conference

The Indiana Department of Correction is honored to host the 2008 National Mental Health Conference titled, “Unlock the Mystery: Managing Mental Health from Corrections to Community.” The conference will be held June 23-25, 2008 in Indianapolis, Indiana at the Adam’s Mark Hotel at the Indianapolis Airport. Now is the time for you to make your plans to be a part of this extraordinary event!

During “Unlock the Mystery,” participants will be afforded the opportunity to acquire promising practices employed by correctional agencies across the country. This conference will address solutions for managing the explosive growth of the mentally ill, substance abusing, and sex offender populations within the adult male, adult female and juvenile populations in jails and prisons.

CEU’s will be awarded to professionals in attendance. More details will follow soon.

Participants will obtain an increased knowledge of the continuity of care from confinement to community-based supervision with the intention of preventing rapid decompensation.

Mental Health and Drug Abuse Treatment - Audio Conference Training

The Association of Paroling Authorities International, with support from the National Institute of Corrections, will be sponsoring an audio conference training on mental health and drug abuse treatment. This training will occur on Thursday, March 8, 2007 at 2:00 PM Eastern Savings Time (EST). The targeted audience includes parole board members, mental health practitioners, community corrections personnel, and jail and reentry professionals. The presentation will be 60 minutes long, followed by 30 minutes of Q & A. Membership in the Association of Paroling Authorities International is not required for this training.
