  • Re: Mental Health Unit

My e-mail is Laura.Town@co.travis.tx.us I have some things that we use here that might be helpful. My staff is mostly female, but I worked in the male MHMR unit prior to my current assignment. We use our counselors and medical staff for training as well. Good luck with your program. It's a tough, but worthy job.

  • Re: Secure Treatment facility for women offenders

Hello! Currently my facility has a program set up for males with acute mental illness and I am working on getting the female housing unit on the same "page".  The males attend mini-treatment/counseling sessions, most have single cell rooms (there are a few double bunked), but when they are considered "stable" they get to ...

  • Re: Verbally abusive I/M

TXVCSO, It's not always about finding out one "true way" every inmate is different and every CO has a different style.  There are some standard things and one of them is to remove the i/m from the view of his/her peers.  Once out of sight of the others, they don't have to "show-off" and that allows them ...

  • Female Sexual Predators

Hello, all. I work for Travis County in the main housing unit for females.  Recently, we have started noticing a greater than normal problem with our females almost preying on each other sexually. For us it seems to be related mostly to our maximum security popluation. Is anyone else experiencing this?  If so what options are you ...

  • Re: Bills first?

I work in Travis County Texas in the County Jail System.  We take a percentage of the outstanding bill based on how much money is in the Commissary account.  The % is not much, but it helps.  This is posted in the units and in the Clinic where inmates received treatment.  We still have outstanding bills from years past, but ...

  • Re: Inmate visitation policies

I'm in Texas in Travis County Sheriff's Office.  We allow 2 visits a week with up to 3 people at a time and anyone can visit.  Our computer system retains all the visitors entered into the system since 1999 for any given inmate and we allow anyone on that list to visit (unles there is a protection order, etc.) Thus far it works ...
