I have started facilitating my first T4C program in the prison setting. The largest resistance I have noticed is with the individuals who say "nothing happened" when asked why the could not complete their thinking check in. I also have one individual who is in self-proclaimed "emotional shut down" and states that he cannot open that box of thoughts or emotions because they will flood out. Any tips on how to deal with these participants?

I work in a community corrections environment and have encountered similar resistance.  I have countered that resistance by pointing out to the individual that not having a situation for their homework is a situation which they can utilize for their homework assignment.  At my agency attending T4C is not voluntary and frequently clients do not want to be in the class.  However, it is expected they complete homework assignments and role play during group.  If they do not do this then they are not permitted to remain in the class and thus receive consequences and have to retake the course when it is offered again.  I hope this helps.  Beginning to facilitate is always a stressful time.  Hang in there.
