our facility has four units each with 72-lockdown individual cells. Unit 500 houses 72-male inmates with mental handicaps, and different levels of retardation,. Looking for any training material, lesson plans, lesson learned material, etc. that can assist us in our "infant state". We have alot of training and educating to do for our officers. Officers will be spending at least a full rotation (30 work days) with these inmates. We have three (3) 8-hour shifts, 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. Only male officers work our facility.

I have some things that we use here that might be helpful. My staff is mostly female, but I worked in the male MHMR unit prior to my current assignment. We use our counselors and medical staff for training as well. Good luck with your program. It's a tough, but worthy job.
