Do you know of a company that offers Corrections related training videos? I am needing Corrections related preferably interactive training videos available to teach line staff as a form of supplimental training. I am looking for a series of 1 or 2 hour training videos. If you have any knowledge of companies who sale corrections training videos or you have some that your agency have developed, that you can share, please let me know.

    Thank you,

    Bridgette Franklin - Training Coordinator

Okay, I know I'll take some heat on this one but I have to throw in my 2 cents.  First let me say that I fully support different methods to reinforce training and think that the use of technology can be a great option to classroom training.  However, and this is where I may ruffle a few feathers, a video is not training.  A video is merely a form of input that replaces lecture and using lecture as the only form of input is a waste of time for the majority of adult learners.  If however, you use short video components (vignettes) along with a small group activity, then a higher level of learning will occur.

Regarding your original inquiry, Command and Control can offer a wide range of Corrections based films and also offer browser based learning options.  They can be contacted through:

I  agree whole-heartedly with Ed.  The Command & Control Offers a workbook with their video tapes.  It flows really nicely to incorporate the video and workbook along with working in role-plays, discussion, etc.

Lock Up USA has a series of Corrections videos.  They come with an instructor guide and list discussion questions.  Some are old, but not bad.  They have a website at http://www.lockupusa.com/ where you can learn more and can contact them if you choose.

     I hope this helps.

Lockup USA are decent videos for newer officers.  Also, In the Line of Duty has some outstanding videos.

We have the Lock-Up USA Tapes, as well as Command & Control (made by Magnetic North) Videos and E-Learning.  The videos also come with a work book and tests.  I see these have already made it to the postings.  Other sources for videos, learning materials (besides the National Institute of Corrections :), is the National Sheriff's Association, ACA, AJA.

I agree with you completely Ed. The only problem I have is no one agrees with me. I am responsible for ensuring all of our healthcare employees receive the required training mandated by the Dept of Corrections as well as our company. I am repeatedly told to purchase new videos and have the employees watch the videos. Healthcare videos expire within a year or two as the healthcare field is constantly improving. These employees are adults and watching a video is not training. I was actually told to purchase a video on hand-washing techniques. I laughed but was told it was a necessary training video. Adults do not learn this way and I was hired because of my experience and qualifications. I just wanted to thank you for your input on the "video training subject"
