It seems that after initial training there is little or no discussion on effective female inmate management techniques.

If there are any of us out there using new/different practices in your female housing units (aside form the obvious corrections 101) I would like to hear what you've found that works specifically for decreasing homosexual activity, violence and insubordination as well as increasing productive behavior such as cleanliness and legitimate program participation.
Thank You TM

Even while in prision some states choose to treat the female offender in a manner which makes the prision setting/ enviornment structured more like a very casual hotel setting than a correctional facility complete with gardens and household pets. The supporters of this casual living enviornment even tried to go as far as to have them be addressed as "residents" as opposed to "inmates". In addition these same supporters would have the officers dressed in shirts, ties, and black shoes in place of the BDU's (battle dress uniform) that is worn in all of the mens facility in one state (true story). I have to add that black militay style boots were not to be worn because "it might offend the offender" . This tactic of handling the female offender was tried in one state and proven to be unsuccessful and the Director of Prisions of that state has scence resigned for unrelated reasons however her administration has left a bad taste in the mouths of the overwelming majority in the afore reffered state.

Offender re entry training in PA

I want to advance my career and my skills and need the following help if you can and will.

I have a question for you, which I am sure you will find unusual. I work for the Idaho Dept. of Corrections, I am the Pre-Release Specialist for the Dept. of Corrections, and the only PRS for women offenders in the State of Idaho. I am the last resource for the female offenders before they leave incarceration. I help them with clothing, housing, Social Security, Voc Rehab, Schooling, etc. There is a Pre-Release/Re-entry training in April in PA, that I would love to go to. Unfortunately, due to budget restrictions, all travel and training have been put to a halt. However, the training providers have agreed to pay my registration of $275.00. My supervisor has told me that as long as I can get the entire training paid for, airfare, hotel, transportation, and food, that I can go. So I am looking for some type of sponsorship if you have such a thing. If not could you point me in the right direction? Could you please help me in my goal of going to this training with some type of donation or sponsorship? I can give you my supervisor and/or wardens info if needed. I need to get this done by Feb. 10, 2009 if at all possible. Thank you so much. Jena Reed
