We have just updated our Directive on use of force and that has lead to a review of our use of force curriculum.  We do instruction in use of handcuffs and leg irons along with use of the Restraint Chair.

Does any one have a lesson plan for the use of soft restraints.  If you do and are willing to share i would like to take a look at it.

I am also interested in what other departments are teaching for restraint devices.

    Ross,

Our facility does not use soft restraints...but we have been looking for directives, policies, or a leeson plan for the use of the Restraint Chair. Any chance of having it forwarded to me ?

Thanks in advance and be safe,

I decided that the easiest way was to post the file in the training Shared files.  I will email you a copy of the directive.

I am still looking for any training information or procedures on Soft Restraints.

Although soft restraints WOULD be more comfortable and less damaging to anyone apprehended, my current experiences in Iraq have led me to believe that soft restraints also show a softness in the system.  On the ground we generally use flex-cuffs, and occasionally the classic steel, but once detainees are turned over from us to the Detention Holding Area, soft restraints are used.  My unit here in Baghdad lives and works with the Iraqi Police, National Police, and Iraqi Army on a daily basis, and they tell us all the time that we shouldn't bring comfort to those arrested, whether they really are guilty or not.  Daily we're told that we are doing nothing but showing weakness by giving them a more comfortable experience.  Sorry I can't agree with you on this one dad...
