I am a graduate student at the University of South Carolina School of Public Health. My mentor is working on a project for Camille Graham women’s prison facility in Columbia, South Carolina. She wants me to do a search for "existing programs, services, etc. that have focused on improving the health of women in prison through partnerships, collaborations, programming, etc". The task force is concentrating on coping skills, sexuality and healthy life styles. While looking for programs, I stumbled upon this forum. Are there any health programs you are using that might be helpful to us? Thanks!

Hi Heather, In California Institution for women Arobics is taught almost nightly by a designated trained inmate that volunteers. although this is not mandatory there is always a long waiting line to get into the auditorium that holds 200 people. there are verious levels of arobics that are led by 5 inmate trained volunteers. we also have a Physical Training program inmates may sign up to be assigned to 8 hours a day monday- friday. focusing on Fire fighter fitnes. The ultimate goal is to be accepted as a forestry fire fighter. Yes, Female inmates want to be in fire fighting. That is as close as I can get to your specific programs you are inquiring about. Sgt. L.A. Gonzalez
