We are looking at an active shooter as a person who is actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area. What we need is training to address this type of situation. We are looking for training (both basic and instructor courses) that will provide our staff with skills in movement and close quarter combat to address this type of situation.

Individually we address that scenario in a judgemental shooting program (MILO), an individual officer or deputy having to deal with an active scenario presented to them. In an formal (SWAT) or informal (forming a quick response team from staff on scene) setting the tactical response is developed through on going training of a specialized unit or partol/security staff.

Hi Ed, I would recommend that you contact the National Tactical Officers Association, http://www.ntoa.org/, they run an instructor level course for Patrol Response to Active Shooters. Good Luck and Stay Safe, Ken
