    Dear Colleagues,

I would be glad to share a comprehensive assessment form with those of you who are working with women in the criminal justice system.  If you would like a copy please e-mail me and I will be gald to send it to you.

I am also interested in learning about the type of trauma treatment programs being offered to women within our state and federal prisons.  If you work in this particular area please contact me for a discussion and to share resources.

Finally, I am developing a program for women convicted of sexual offenses and would be interested in hearing from colleagues who are working with either adult women or adolescent girls.

    Together we make a difference!

BOP - The Psychology Services Branch has developed a standardized treatment program, the Resolve & Rehabilitate Program, to address the needs of female offenders with a history of trauma. The program consists of a psychoeducational course and a non-residential, cognitive-behavioral treatment protocol. Psychology Services Staff from the Bureau’s female institutions attended a Resolve & Rehabilitation Program training in September 2006 and institutions will begin to implement the program this year.

Peg, I will have it out to you next week.  Are you currently using an assessment with women offenders and if so what one/kind?  Also, is California using any of the programs that were developed through the WCDVS study?

Karen, I'm still new to California and want to support their gender based strategies for women offenders; they are in the process of contracting out for almost 50% of their female population to local providers. Any resources I can share with them I'm happy to do so. California is implementing a new assessment instrument in some of it's reception centers as they are piloting new initiatives. I belive it is the COMPASS instrument. Regards, PRitchie

Karen, I work with a gender-specific caseload of women on misdemeanor probation and would be interested in your assessment form, if still available. Thank you.

I appreciate any and all information on this subject as this is the number one releapse cause in the recidivism and reincarceration for female inmates. I am the clinical supervisor for a work release/treatment center in Bradenton Florida and I am ready to add a local treatment providers services in the area of sexual trauma. However tyhis is new territory for this center . If any one has information on other programs for female offenders in thses areas or the areas of research on female offenders that are communicating the causes of problems I would appreciate your feedback and experience. Bill,

Send me your name and address and I will mail the Gender-Based Trauma Inventory to you.  I developed it with a group of women at the Indiana Women's Prison.  It helps to focus treatment planning and can indicate when a more in-depth assessment is needed.  Karen A Duncan
