The City of Seattle has begun the planning process for a new local (or regional) correctional facility. The Principal Project Director for Corrections Capacity Planning will lead an Interagency Project Team to guide the facility development project, including project scope development, budget creation, consultant hiring, scheduling, planning, cost estimating, design, permitting, public works bid process, construction, close out, and move coordination.
The position is currently funded through the site selection and planning phase, for the duration of approximately 18 months. During this period, duties will focus on managing facility program development, public outreach strategy development, land use and environmental issues, project budget assessment and cost estimates, procurement of consultants, defining the project schedule, and preliminary design. The position duties will extend to encompass project close out upon Council approval of design and construction phase funding. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2012.
The Project Director reports in a matrix role to the Fleets and Facilities Executive Director and Capital Programs Director in the Fleets and Facilities Department, with direct linkage to the Mayor’s Office and City Council via a Client Group.
Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, business or a related field and a minimum of seven years experience in capital facilities program management, project or construction management. Applicants must have previous experience with project management and successful delivery of adult detention or similar facilities. Three years of supervisory or senior management experience is required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
