I was a member of this forum (CLC) but no longer receive messages.  Further, I cannot figure out how to access the forum.  Does it still exist?

Some of our lists/forums were closed when we moved to the new system due to lack of activity or because we no longer had someone to manage the forum.

I can't recall a forum named "CLC".  Do you remember what this forum was for? It's possible it got renamed or combined with another group.

It was legal.  I think it was basically the General Counsels from all the DOC's plus some others.  It was a restricted group.

I believe that CLC stood for "Chief Legal Counsel."  Thanks.

Got it.  When we moved to the new system we found that we didn't really have anyone who could maintain the membership.  When we have a private group, we always need someone to approve new members, get rid of former members, and keep the group going in general.

Typically, this has always been done by an NIC staff member, but we are considering letting members of the group manage their own group.  Would this be of interest to you if this was the only way we could keep this private group going?

If you can give me an idea of the duties, I will be glad to consider.  I know you already mentioned some.  Thanks.  I always thought this was a good forum.

Depending on how web saavy someone is, it really should take much time.  The act of approving members and moderating a forum is pretty straightforward and easy to learn.  The harder part is identifying who should be in the group and who shouldn't, and that's why we are thinking about turning this task over to group members. Also important for a private group is having a "champion" to keep interest stirred up amoung the members. In general, we would need someone to help us:

    • Get past members to move into the new system
    • Identify and recruit others who may not have been in the old system
    • Identify and assign those members to the private group
    • Keep and eye on the discussion topics and members

    We can provide:

    • A list of members from the old system
    • Instructions and training for being a moderator
    • Ongoing technical support

Have you had any experience in other web-based forums similar to our new system?

I do consider myself to be computer and web savvy.  My experience with other web-based forums has always been as a particpant, not a moderator.  However, based upon your email, I think I can handle the task and I would be willing to try.  Please let me know what I need to do.  Thanks.  If we need to discuss via phone, I am at 803-896-8508.  Thanks.

    David,

I have your account setup as a moderator for a private forum.  Would you mind filling out the attached form that will provide us with the necessary documentation?

When would be a good time for you to do an orientation and get you going?

I will be out of the office on Thursday, but any other day, including today, will work for me.  We shouldn't need more than an hour.
