Does anyone have information about incidents in the last seven or eight years that required evacuation of a large jail and does anyone know of major disturbances or serious hostage incidents in jails during the last seven or eight years? If you do, could you please e-mail the type of incident, the jail that was involved and a citation for any reports or other information available on the incident to Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz at: jasletra@aol.com This is for an NIC jails project and even if you can just identify the jail and the type of incident, that may be very helpful.
As part of this project, Bill Page with the Michigan Municipal Risk Management Authority is searching for jail evacuation information on a Texas county (possibly San Antonio) He attended a session at AJA or in Michigan where the Jail Administrator went over their evacuation as a learning experience. ( He believes it was a 1000 bed jail and smoke in the ventilation system compounded what at first appeared to be a minor problem, but ended with a full evacuation).
