I am a new member to CC and have just read your Post. We do not have a direct policy on shields. However; we do use shields in serious incidents to protect the child or staff. We do run training on the use of the shield for Security Officers and Dorm staff. This training is standard cell extraction and riot shield use, built around our primary subject control tactics. The shield usage, like our control tactics; are as soft as we can make them. It seems to work very well, we have been using it for about seven years and have no staff or student injury (Beyound bumps and bruises) reported. Admittedly we use the shield very little. Our Control Tactics is used often and ususally works as desired, before a shield is even needed. Our partner and Team control tactics are the best I have used in over 35 years in Criminal Justice work.
I am interested in the responce you received on your Post, and what you may have come up with for your agency.
Hope you are still checking your Post.
