Florida, Georgia and Colorado are the primary states that come to mind in regard to private probation. I would suggest contacting the state probation folks in those states - both for their perspectives about private probation and to help identify some of the private providers. My impression - but not a statement of fact - is that private probation is adaptable to the funded priorities of probation/correctional agencies or courts, and often focuses on PSI's and misdemeanor supervision. It has been a while since I had any contact in this area, but my impression is that in some jurisdictions offender paid supervision fees often cover most or all of the cost, which raises a couple of significant public policy questions for some.
