My team is involved in running job readiness groups for probationers. We also provide training to probation officers and other service providers on offender employment. We have recently been asked about an instrument which provides information on the effectiveness of our job readiness program. My team all attended the OWDS training in OKC last year and we would be able to put something together but would prefer not to reinvent the wheel unless we really have to do. I would appreciate any input. Thank you.

    Hi Cynthia -

If you are interested in taking a look at the OWDS evaluation process let me know.  We collect data on participant demographics, participant satisfaction, pre and post test results, what specific OWDS skills were used once the graduate returned to his or her job, and what impact was made in the participant's home jurisdiction.  I have developed a manual which provides step by step instructions on how to collect the data.  The manual is still in draft form but you are welcome to take a look at it along with the instruments we use to collect the data and adapt whatever you want to suit your needs.

We are currently measuring effectiveness of the OWDS program by looking at transfer of knowledge to the job and the type of impact the participant is having in their home jurisdiction, such as the amount of collaborations with local businesses and whether or not the participant has increased offender participation in the program.

We are currently developing software that will collect data such as the offender's past and current employment history, job retention, recidivism, and many more variables.  We plan to pilot it in 2007.

     Scott

I would very much like to see it and perhaps adapt some of it to fit our purposes. Our team members that are holding groups are doing interests and skills assessments using the information which we received at NIC but I was asked for something more by one of the probation directors and so we are exploring options. Thanks again for your help.

    Hi Diana,

That would be great. We currently use a pre/post test for our 7 hour sessions with service providers as well as evaluation of the training for them to complete. I'd really love to see what you have as we still have not been able to satisfy what was requested of us. Thanks for the offer.
