Do any of you train annually on policy & procedure? Or do you just give out the new updates and have staff sign for them? If you do train annually-what format? How long is the training? Thanks!

We do not do anual training on P & P.

We have a computerized daily briefing document tnat all staff members are required to read.  All P & P changes are posted in this docuemnt for at least 7 days.  We also do 20 minute training at shift briefings.  Major changes are covered in this training in addition to being placed in the briefing.

Therre is a computer terminal at each officer's work station.  the entire P & P book is accessable to them on-line at any time through  these terminals.

Per State Jail Standards, our security staff must sign-off on policy & procedures.  They have to do this every year.  Updated P&P are also available on the Jail's Intranet and there is usually a paper sign-off that the staff have read the update.  We also utilize the pre-shift meetings to do P&P reminders, updates, etc.

I do monthly two hour trainings. If the training that month covers a topic in P & P; for example suicide intervention and prevention, or fire safety, Polciy and Procedure that covers these topics is also covered as well as a quiz given on the policy and procedure. Updates are e-mailed to every officer and covered in the next training. Each officer is issued a policy and procedure manual as well as having access to an electronic version on the intranet.
