I am looking for information on existing programs and/or ideas regarding what is being done for pre-release mentally ill offenders. What works in getting them prepared to return to the community? What needs to be done that isn't being done? My ideas is they need a constant connection vs. transition. To that end, what do we, as corrections professionals, need to do to help them prior to their release? Thanks, Gale Joslin, Ph.D. DOC Psychologist

Hello Gale, I oversee a statewide Mentally Ill ReEntry Project in Michigan and would love to talk with you more about what we are doing. We are under the umbrella of the Michigan Prison ReEntry Initiative and we have a contract with MDOC to operate the project. We have developed a project based on the philosophies of cross-systems collaboration and seamless transitions from prison to community. My email address is betsy@pcsjxn.com. If you'd like more info on what we do, please feel free to contact me directly.
