Scott, I have just found your website and listened to your video on Relationships between EBP and Employment. I agree with the individuals needs to change their thinking but my experience as a mother of a daughter who was a single mother in the system. She received no training or education while in. She as however allowed to be the Wardens hairstylist while there but received no license for her skills. She came out witha prison attitude knowing she would have society against her for employment and two children to raise. Parole in Texas made sure she heard she was not worthy with or without children. In todays society an employer can find out every possible event in your life before you exit the interview and deny an opportunity to go further. I think there is not doubt as to why an offender re-offends when felons struggle to retain a place to live without being pre judged have Felon Label attached for the remainder of their lives and societies attitudes towards them. As with even yourself put in their shoes and you know you are no longer viewed with any dignity and you were turned away form jobs and housing would it make some since that you feel defeated when you try to return to society? Then we need to work to adjust not that street mentality but the added prison mentality as well. Offenders can offend still be a good person and come out someone you never new existed after life behind bars. I do understand that. But given all the right opportunities to retain their Civil Rights they can change.
