This article summarizes an incentives program used by CEO, a nonprofit agency in New York, to help offenders maintain employment. Offenders were given grocery and fare card vouchers of increasing value for each month that they maintained employment, up to 12 months of consecutive employment, at which time they also received $200. Compared to those not in the program, participants demonstrated significantly higher employment retention rates, particularly at 180 days, where retention rates were 15% higher for those receiving incentives.
