Prison Issues in the Criminal Justice Field

Interested in Innovative Programs Our Neighbors to the North are trying out?

The Canadians have chosen two cities to benefit from the Integrated Police/Parole Initiative. This innovative partnership hires police officers to be community corrections liaison officers.

The officers monitor high risk and high need offenders that have transitioned back to the community.

Another interesting partnership is the Community Forum Program which links Correctional Services of Canada and local non-profit organizations. Grant monies are available to the registered non-profits to assist in this program. Some objectives are:

  •    To build strong and safe communities
  •    To encourage community engagement
  •    To strengthen the community's understanding of safe reentry of offenders
  •    To build community capacity to assist offenders in reintegration

What do you think about these two initiatives? Are you doing anything similar?
