I always thought rape was against the law weather it be in jail or not. I think this article should be going global. And prosecute these animals that are victimizing the inmates. Anyway we look at it RAPE is RAPE!!! It just seems so revolting and more animalistic in the prisons. I hope something can be done to stop this disgusting act. thank you christine

Rape is a crime no matter where it ocurres. Prison employees do not allow it to happen its just another crime cmmented.

I have worked in the prison system for 20 years. Rape is a crime that happens in prison just as it happens on the street. Please, do not judge lest you be judged. Employees are not to blaim.

I have worked in the prison system for 20 years. The eyes of the staff can not see everything. Law makers do not allot enough money for proper surveillance systems. Those that accuse the employee without any personal knowledge should be ashamed. It is not allowed by employees but it simply another crime that happens just like on the street. Please, do not judge lest you be judged.

While I think that the changes reflected in the proposed standards are long over-due, the Commission has over-estimated the resources that are available to state prisons in this time of financial crisis. While the concepts need to be maintained, I feel that the Commission needs to be more realistic in understanding the resouces available to most prison systems, and with that understanding, tailor the guidelines so that they can be imposed successfully.

The prison system is always hiring. You should go work there because you seem to think this issue can be stopped with the snap of your fingers. If the police can not stop it in the free world what makes you think that correction officers can stop it in the penitentiary. You obviously have never been to a max unit.

in such an act as RAPE should be delt with. I mean

those who allow it to happen; GUARDS,WARDENS,

and THOSE OWNING THESE JAILS also.

Private owned jails are for profit and slave labor.

I am appalled and shocked that rape goes on in our prisons in the United States. These corrections officers that have let this go on for decades should be ashamed or more the point, locked up themselves for enabling this horrible garbage to go on. This is torture and what happened to the eigth amendment against cruel and unusual punishment? I have such a hatred for rapists that it isn't even funny. I have more respect for murderers than these scum. they should get the death penalty if caught raping someone even if they are in prison. I don't care if it is another prisoner who was raped. Nobody should have to go through this. they should be castrated. period. Where is your sense of humanity?

Note: the case evidence finds that the prison officials sanctioned and openly supported hostile targetting of female officers, failing to take "appropriate corrective action," according to California and Federal law. Prison officials made deals with inmates to provide them the female officer of their choice in exchange for them not tearing up their cells. This caused the inmates to act out hostily unless they were allowed to hold the units (and other inmates) hostage in exchange of the female of their choice. Then, the prison officials destroyed state evidence, legal documents, and falsified legal reports to cover their own acts of hostility against female officers. The Inspector General's 2000 report confirmed this.

This case was not about inmates. It was about prison officials using an officer's gender as a marketable commodity among inmates and fostering an atmosphere that violated the employees Constitutional Rights as a Citizen of the United States. The majority of inmates found this practice to be detestable. And, the courts found it to be illegal.

Rape is not part of the fabric of prison.

Rehabilitation and community security is...

Like it or not, we have laws protecting every member of society - including those incarcerated.

Allowing inmates to me assaulted will likely increase the recidivism rate as trauma, subtance abuse and crime are linked.
