The National Institute of Justice (NIJ), in partnership with Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government Innovators Network will be hosting a free online discussion regarding sexual victimization in correctional facilities. An expert panel will address the state of current research and what can be done to reduce and eliminate such events. The date is Feb. 7, 2008, 2PM - 4PM EST. Controversial Prison Rape Report Published

The long-awaited report by Mark Fleisher and Jessie Krienert, "The Culture of Prison Sexual Violence," has been posted by NCJRS. The report has been the subject of some controversy.

The National Institute of Justice has funded research in areas including the impact of sexual victimization in corrections, risk assessment and prevention, and medical and psychological effects of prison sexual victimization. As of April 2006, the agency is reviewing applications from a solicitation to explore sexual violence as it occurs within the context of other violent behavior during incarceration.
