Living in the #39 ranked state, it wasn't good news but at least I'm not in DC. (it's just humor, DC! But, really, look at where DC would be ranked on these categories if they were ranked. A teen death rate twice of most other areas and four times higher than the #1. Run kids, while you have the chance!)&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I hope my local legislators look at it and work to improve the lives of children in this state!&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt; &amp;nbsp; I also work with male youths from 13-19 in a detention facility and am constantly on the look out for speakers and employment initiatives to lead my students in my career skills class towards rehabilitation. Most of the time the poverty is the overriding impediment towards rehabilitation. &lt;/p&gt;

These cases need to be reviewed and put back in juvenile courts much like the Genarlo case where they are misdemeanors so these boys ahve chances to live and work and be productive. If we spent just half as much on family strengthening supports as we do on the prison system, we would not have the growing mess we have today. And fear-based campaigns that portray youth as monsters are only successful in scaring the general public, woefully unaware of the abuses within the system, into draconion policies that serve to do nothing but exacerbate the problem. &amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
