Prison Rape - It's Not Funny!

I was very disappointed when I opened the movie section in this morning's paper to see an ad for a new movie, "Let's go to Prison." The ad shows a bar of soap, stamped with the movie title, near a shower floor drain and the text, "Welcome to the Slammer." Since the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA, P.L. 108-79) was enacted by Congress, the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) and many of our jails and prisons have worked extremely hard to comply with PREA. Many resources are available from NIC for the detection, prevention, reduction, and punishment of prison rape. We need to continue to educate the public on this very serious topic. It's just not funny!
