http://community.nicic.org/blogs/jails/archive/tags/Information+Gathering/default.aspxTags: Information GatheringenCommunityServer 2007.1 SP1 (Build: 30415.43)http://community.nicic.org/blogs/jails/archive/2006/12/19/Information-Gathering-to-Improve-Jail-Safety-and-Security.aspxTue, 19 Dec 2006 17:25:00 GMT26cc0436-63b6-4ef3-9d43-d8006bc9b9ca:1982Sandy Schilling0<p>The <a href="http://www.cops.usdoj.gov/files/ric/Publications/e10063135.pdf">Jail Information Model</a> is now available from the <a href="http://www.cops.usdoj.gov/">Office of Community Orientated Policing Services</a> (COPS).&nbsp; The goal is to gather information (they don&#39;t use the word intelligence-<a href="http://www.cops.usdoj.gov/mime/open.pdf?Item=1930">see page 8</a>) from the jail environment about internal and external safety and security issues.&nbsp;This can all be done without additional staff.</p><p>&quot;To support the project mission statement, the <a href="http://www.sheriffs.org/home.shtml">National Sheriffs&#39; Association</a> established the following project goals: </p><ul><li>Collect information in the jail regarding:<br />-Internal jail safety and security issues<br />-Criminal activity within the jail<br />-Criminal activity outside of the jail </li><li>Route the information to the appropriate office or agency for action.&quot; </li></ul><p>This is a great tool for our jails to use in implementing a formal process of information gathering.
