Research and Statistics Now Available on the Prevalence of Mentally Ill in Our Jails

The Council of State Governments Justice Center, in partnership with Policy Research Associates, has conducted a five-site study on mental illness within jails by using samples of inmates screened at booking. The results were published this week in the journal Psychiatric Services.  The article, Prevalence of Serious Mental Illness Among Jail Inmates, is one that jail administrators and staff will want to review. See the FAQ's, read the press release and summary of key findings on this important research about the serious mental illness in our jail population.
