SAMHSA Announces 2007 Funding for Diversion of Mentally Ill from Jail

The Center for Mental Health Services of the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), is soliciting applications for its FY 2007 Targeted Capacity Expansion Grants for Jail Diversion Programs. Applications are due March 27, 2007. It is anticipated that two, 3-year grants will be awarded.

The grants "will promote the transformation of systems to improve services for justice-involved adults with mental illness. This program is intended to improve the capacity of systems to divert these individuals away from the criminal justice system to community-based integrated mental health and substance abuse treatment and other appropriate support services."
