Does Faith Play a Role in Reducing Criminality?

What, if any, is the impact of religion in promoting pro-social behaviors? This is the question Baylor University, Institute for Studies of Religion sought to answer by using standards of scholarship to examine issues of faith. Their studies indicate that religious commitment, particularly among youth, promotes self-control and enhances protective factors regarding drug use, academic performance and in altering the behaviors of high-risk youth.

I enjoyed this article. Personally and professionally, an individual that who has been introduced into the faith based programs can change and the high rate of repeat offenders will go definitely down.

Having wrote a thesis a few years ago on this  very subject for my M.S. program in criminal justice, I initially had discovered that faith plays a role, albeit a small one, but it does. There are a lot of other factors that contribute to recidivism as well.  Faith in how each person sees God and understands Him plays a part I believe. While I am a Bible College graduate as well, I know that in the real world people do not believe the way I do. That's fine; however if whom or what they believe in helps them to live a crime free life, then at least on a world scale that is good.  I might not believe the way they do or in what or whom they believe,(and them toward me) but I think that if they have a basis of faith, it will help.
