Competing for a slice of the state or local fiscal pie may get significantly tougher in the coming years, according to a
report released today by the United States Government Accountability Office. Absent a change in policy, GAO's simulations find that "large and growing fiscal challenges for the sector will begin to emerge within the next few years," with the downward spiral charted out to the year 2050.
