The 2008 edition of Topics in Community Corrections is now available. Applying Evidence-Based Practices in Pretrial Services provides a framework for pretrial personnel to employ research-based practices in "developing programming, designing supervision strategies, and conducting research that will lead to a better understanding of current efforts in the pretrial services area."

Federal Pretrial Services Celebrates 25th Anniversary of the Pretrial Services Act of 1982

In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Pretrial Services Act of 1982, a federal pretrial services training conference will be held in conjunction with the annual meeting of the National association of Pretrial Services Agencies (NAPSA). The dates of the federal program are September 19 - 20, 2007, in Cleveland, Ohio. This conference will highlight pretrial services-related resources, alternatives to detention, increasing release rates, evidence-based practices for pretrial services, technology, and innovative pretrial services supervision programs in the federal system. The conference provides an opportunity for federal pretrial services leaders and practitioners to celebrate the history of pretrial services in the federal courts as well as plan for continued success in the future. Florida Pretrial Moving Forward with Accreditation

Florida is moving forward with the Accreditation process. The Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission convenes in June. Florida may have their first Pretrial Program receive accreditation in June 2007. Jeff Kilpatrick of Alachua County Pretrial Services who also serves as Association of Pretrial Professionals of Florida(APPF) President and Susan Burdette, Unit Supervisor of Orange County Corrections were appointed as Pretrial Accreditation Commissioners.
