Implementing Effective Correctional Management of Offenders in the Community

One of the principal challenges to community-based corrections professionals is serving the safety needs of the general public while having organizational support for combining effective supervision practices with programs and services that positively impact offender recidivism.

The National Institute of Corrections, Community Corrections Division, has developed a series of publications that provide a model for the successful implementation of evidence-based practices to effectively manage offenders in the community. The protocols stress the need to integrate evidence-based practices with organizational development and collaborative partnerships with other stakeholders in the process.

The publications examine the research framework upon which these principles are founded and provide clear, definable goals and steps for the design, implementation and subsequent evaluation of the utilization of human, organizational and community resources.
