Over 2,000 of you have joined the National Institute of Corrections' online community for corrections professionals since it was started on July 1st. Members have enjoyed the great news and information provided by our corrections experts and discussed over 600 topics in our private and public forums. This private forum is for jail administrators, of any size facility, across the country. You can ask questions of your collegues and receive their responses. It's an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas and provide assistance to others.

We are proud to introduce a new Women Offenders forum. This public forum is moderated by the National Institute of Corrections's Maureen Buell.

Questions and discussion topics for this forum can cover a wide range of areas to include policy, practice, programs, treatment, operations as well as addressing inquiries from administrators, managers, line staff -- essentially anyone who has in interest in the issue of women detained and sentenced to the criminal justice system.

Since its launch on July 1st, 2006, over 1,000 people have joined the Corrections Community. With direct support from corrections experts at the National Institute of Corrections, the Corrections Community is a great area for corrections professionals seeking to network with each other, share knowlege and information, and stay current with the latest correction news.

The Listservs are moving to the Community. Read what you need to know.

This is a basic guide to answer some questions you might have as we move our listservs to our new Corrections Community.

Top Questions:

Do I have to create a new account in order to participate?
Yes. You can look around anonymously, but in order to participate you will need to create an account.
Did my listserv account transfer to the new system?
No. We wish we could have made it that easy, but you will need to create a new account.
Can I still use the old listserv?
No. Once a listserv is closed, it will no longer accept new messages.
Can I view past messages in the old listserv?
Yes. You can access past listserv information here.
Can I finish my discussion on the listserv?
Yes. You can finish discussions in-process, but you will not be able to start new topics. New topics need to be started in the Community.
Important! Can I still participate through email?
Partially. You can sign up to receive an email alert with a link that will let you reply whenever a new message is posted in your forum(s). A brief tutorial on setting up your email subscriptions can be found here. You cannot use email to send a new message or reply to messages. All messages must be sent through the web site.
Why are you doing this?
While our listservs have provided a great service for many years, new technologies and opportunities have become available that we believe are far superior to what the listservs provided.
Are all the listservs going to be moved into the Commuity?
Probably. While each listserv will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. the plan is to move most if not all listservs into the Community by no later than late August.

A community is defined by it's members' desire to participate. Your willingness to post comments and help fellow members is what powers this Community. Valued members help the Community by:

Creating new discussions and topics.
Post a question or solicit feedback from the Community. Tap into the experience and knowledge of fellow members to solve problems and learn new things. The resulting discussion will help you but may also help others in the future. Suggesting topics of interest to the Moderators will also provide opportunities for discussion in the Blogs.

Welcome to the new and improved community specifically for correction professionals. We hope that the new look, expanded features and simpler design will make this area more visible and useable.

Look for closer interaction with our highly experienced correction specialists and other staff. They will be interacting with you directly in the blogs and forums--assisting you with your tough questions and providing insight and guidence for issues facing corrections and criminal justice.

This new portal combines the networking of our former e-mail listservs and private networking areas into a single point of access.
